Top 10 Albums 2009!

New Music | Top 10 Albums 2009

Alas, dear friends, for I fear little Phoenix may have squeezed into the mainstream. And Animal Collective? Really? Maybe we're safe for another year, I don't know. Anyway bonjour and welcome to le top 10 for 2009 as dictated by NMB. No Grizzly Bear, no thanks. No Kasabian, no thanks. Just pure 2009 style quality, a vintage year that competes strongly with 2008

  1. Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
  2. Passion Pit - Manners
  3. Deadmau5 - For Lack of a Better Name
  4. Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavillion
  5. DM Stith - Heavy Ghost
  6. Neon Indian - Psychic Chasms
  7. Sally Shapiro - My Guilty Pleasure
  8. St Vincent - Actor
  9. Au Revoir Simone - Still Night, Still Light
  10. The Thermals - Now We Can See

And best music related video has to (by so far it's not even really fair) go to Spike Jonze and Kanye. Congratulations?

Phoenix - Love Like A Sunset (Animal Collective Remix)

New Music | Phoenix | Animal Collective

Always the highlight of any Phoenix gig is when little Thomas gives up his mic in favour of lying on the floor, for an extended version of an instrumental track like North, Congratulations or, most recently, Love Like a Sunset. But, to be honest, Love Like a Sunset drags on a little but on the album. Just saying. What? Shut up. You go on a little bit. So enter Animal Collective and things get a little sexier, as you'd expect. And the band like it too, apparently.

Phoenix - Lisztomania (Yuksek Remix)

New Music | Phoenix vs Yuksek

A HUGE remix of the opening track from Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, this Yuksek version is doing the rounds at the moment. Has it stumbled its way onto the pages of NMB by pure chance? No. Wait til around 3 minutes and your answer lies right there. Huge. It has all the makings of a 9 minute epic, but alas, we are cut short after a meager 4. Can't win em all, eh?

Top 10 Ones To Watch 2009 (1-5)

New Music | Top 10 Ones To Watch 2009

As SXSW advances, NMB have created a nice little list to keep you amused throught these hard times. Keep those GI Joe Eagle Eyes on this lot over the summer, it promises to be a pretty damn awesome festival season. Here's the rundown - hit the links for New Music Blog recommended tunes:

1. St Vincent - If this tune ends up on a T Mobile advert I will bite off my thumb and replace this entire list with Scouting For Girls.

2. Friendly Fires - Already set for the Big Chill, these guys have such huge tunes like Paris & Skeleton Boy that they literally cannot fail. Or can they? No.

3. Crystal Antlers - Hot in the blogosphere, crap name, awesome tunes.

4. Phoenix - An already huge yet cult following has kept Phoenix as Europe's best kept secret. We reckon something on new album WOLFGANG AMADEUS PHOENIX will kick things wide open.

5. Dan Black - First up for the Calvin Harris Award For Becoming Famous With Popular-At-Festivals Electro Pop.

Phoenix - 1901

New Music | PhoenixObviously the best thing to have come out of France since Emmanuelle Beart, and genuinely the best live experience I've ever witnessed, Phoenix have been locked in the studio for what seems like forever since their last release. Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, their new album, is out soon and 1901 is a teaser they've just unleashed unto the world. First thoughts - awesome production, standard confusing frenglish lyrics, brilliant middle 8 and some pretty dirty synths to spice up the Phoenix sound.
